Wesleyan Unified by Winter Weather Woes (and Wins)

Last Sunday’s winter storm marked a chilly start to the spring semester. Since the snow stopped falling, Wesleyan students have been weathering the aftermath as best as they can, trudging through large piles of snow and ice on their way to class. As one would expect, the snowstorm was heavily discussed on Fizz, where a quick scroll will reveal the good, the bad and the ugly bits of the past few weeks.

In the days leading up to the snow, anticipation was building. Certain community members were particularly excited about this development and tried to prepare in advance:

As the snow began to fall, some people despaired…

But others quickly told them to shut the fuck up.

It became clear that the snow wouldn’t stop anytime soon, and finally, the news broke: we would have a snow day!

Everyone celebrated—even Michael Roth, on his Fizz burner account.

Students soon realized that the snow would provide them with a much-needed opportunity to relax and have some fun. Our campus was decorated with some breathtaking impromptu snow art, including this sensual female nude.

Other students dug deeper, creating tunnels to rival the ones beneath the CFA. If you've walked past Allbritton recently, you've likely witnessed their masterful designs firsthand.

One student, in a feat that even Sisyphus would be proud of, decided to bring the snowstorm indoors.

But it wasn’t all fun and games. For one thing, we still had to go to class, which came with its own struggles.

The snow also made it difficult to get from place to place.

Food became scarce.

And there were other struggles:

One could argue that all we have endured over the past few weeks has brought us closer together as a community. One could also argue that the snowstorm and its aftermath made us all hate each other just a little bit more. I will leave that up to you to decide—but remember that even in the darkest (and coldest) of moments, there is beauty.
